You know who’s been absolutely killing it in the brewery the last couple of months? Jesse Hooper, our Assistant Brewer! Travis wrote a little tribute to our brewhouse rock star, who deserves more than a little recognition. Keep reading to take a look at what Jesse does!
“Jesse has been with Amor Artis Brewing since batch #1 on January 1, 2018. He came in right after we hired him and shadowed our very first batch, Hoppy New Beer. It started as a part time brewing gig, but he quickly transitioned out of bartending to help us keep up with production. He then began shadowing me full time and learning every aspect of brewing and doing cellaring work. For months, he focused on cleaning tanks, transferring and carbonating beer, dry hopping, fruiting, barrel aging, and keg cleaning… just to name a few!
One of the proudest days for me was January 1, 2019, when I was planning on brewing that same first beer a year to the day. I thought back to when he was just volunteering his time and saw how far he’d come since then. So I looked at him and I said, “Today is the day where you take over the brewhouse.” Since then, he has been producing a majority of the beers you see on the board from start to finish.
Jesse gets to the brewery every day by 7am and doesn’t leave until late. He will straight up grind all of those hours, as evidenced by the fact that he’s somehow always soaked. One of his most fun accomplishments has been the formation of the Jesse Beard Award. Chances are, if you eat a meal with Jesse you’re going to hear his detailed opinion on the food, whether you want to or not. The brewery is also where he met his best friend in the whole world, Jeremy. You can find them watching football, playing cards and smoking ribeyes on Jeremy’s porch every Sunday.
So next time you see Jesse, raise a glass and give the man a hug and tell him thank you. Amor Artis wouldn’t be where it is today without this man, and I am proud to have him as an employee and friend.”
You’ll be hard pressed to find anyone who works as hard or cares as much about what he does as him. And that’s why you’re the best, Jesse!
